Robinson House in Crawley was no straightforward job. a previous attempt at spiking roosting points, costing over £4000.00 and requiring absailers did not do the job. The pigeons were only moderately inconvenienced and soon ripped off a lot of the spiking.

Then there was the location, on the corner of a busy junction with no possibility of just coning off a bit of road and erecting a scaffolding tower. All work had to be carried out from within the building, mostly hanging off balconies.

Then there was the residents. a wide range of nationalities, personalities and prejudices to be catered for sympathetically.

We decided that only netting off the balconies and installing more robust spiking would force the pigeons to relocate. We sought various quotations for suggested specifications and decided that Eradicate's quote best met our requirements and our budget.

And we scheduled the work for the coldest February in many years.

Eradicate UK - Jim Browne, David Howse and there team had to juggle residents individual requirements (ranging from "not Tuesday morning" and "not until the kids are at school" to "there must be a female chaperone present") so could never fix on a planned schedule but instead had to tackle what they were permitted to tackle when they could. Nonetheless they all kept their smiles and we received good feedback from the people who's apartments they traipsed through to gain access to the balconies.

Things are never right first time. Pigeons are obstinate and managed to dislodge spikes from half set adhesive to get themselves trapped behind the netting: and to squeeze through gaps which appeared impossibly small. We were not going to pay for a job half done and said so, but no confrontation resulted; Eradicate's view was that if their work didn't work it was their duty to put it right. A number of ingenious work-arounds were devised, such as stringing thin steel cable where short spikes had not succeeded, and temporarily netting off spiking to allow the adhesive to fully cure.

We paid in full at the end of March: job done, pigeons gone. They remain gone ( from Robinson House, at least - someone else's problem now).

We continue to use Eradicate's services.
